Devin Murphy

Founder + Principal

Devin brings nearly two decades of experience in strategic planning, philanthropic portfolio management, and convening design. Prior to launching his own venture, Devin spent 16 years at the Bridgespan Group, leaving as a Partner and area of expertise (“practice”) leader for sourcing and diligence on behalf of philanthropists.

Devin’s prior philanthropy advising clients have included The Ballmer Group, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Blue Meridian Partners, The Democracy Fund, Ford Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Kendeda Fund, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Omidyar Network, and sourcing and diligence in support of family offices.

Devin’s most recent initiative and program design projects have included support for Harlem Children’s Zone Wealth Builds Initiative, implementation and capacity-building support for the HBCU Transformation Project (in partnership with United Negro College Fund, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and the Partnership for Education Advancement), and community-wide planning for the Spartanburg Academic Movement.

Devin has co-authored several publications focused on issues of poverty alleviation, equity, and social capital including, “Boats for a Rising Tide: How Philanthropy Can Help Narrow the Racial Wealth Gap,” "Elevating the Role of Faith-Inspired Impact in the Social Sector" and " 'Billion Dollar Bets' to Create Economic Opportunity for Every American." Devin's recommendations related to economic mobility have been cited in Forbes, Stanford Social Innovation Review, Candid, and theAtlantic.com

Devin spent a year as an associate partner at Entangled Solutions, an innovation and strategy consulting firm focused on the education ecosystem. There, he focused on building innovation capacity for non-profits, foundations, and higher education institutions.

Before joining Bridgespan, Devin completed coursework and qualifying exams with distinction in the American Studies doctoral program at New York University. Devin's field concentrations are in 20th-century social movements and political theory. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, Devin earned a BA with highest honors in Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture from Emory University.
